With donations from many of you, we were able to raise enough funds to send Sierra, a teen with FASD, and her guardian to the International Research Conference on Adolescents and Adults with FASD in April.
She came back brimming with ideas for how to advocate for herself and eager to share her experiences of living with FASD with her community.
One of the ideas that Sierra brought back from the conference was to start a support group for teenagers with FASDs. With her help, the Center has been facilitating two support groups since October that meet monthly, one for teens with FASDs and the other for their caregivers. We have had a total of 28 participants so far, with generally very positive reactions from both the teens and their caregivers. The topics and format for each meeting is decided based on feedback from the participants, and we are very excited to be able to offer this opportunity to the community!
